Solagri's mission
The Solagri Cooperative is commercialising the "oval lemon", with its Protected Geographical Indication recognised by the European Union, that is produced on its associated plantations in Sorrento, on the Sorrentine Peninsula and on the island of Capri.
Solagri works to revive the traditional cultivation techniques of Sorrentine gardens avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in order to return the plants to biological equilibrium. Thus this fruit of fundamental dietary importance and irreplaceable flavour is becoming valued once again.
In addition to the lemons, Solagri also works to
revive the old methods of cultivation of the Sorrentine orange, another extraordinary fruit known and appreciated in world markets for more than two centuries. Solagri is aware that its work not only invigorates the agricultural sector but also makes an important contribution to tourism.
First because its products, characteristic of the area and of certified quality, reinforce Sorrento and the Sorrentine Peninsula's excellent image, both in Italy and abroad, and, secondly, because Solagri's members, in cultivating the soil of their plantations, are the custodians of the countryside. It is for this countryside that Sorrento is famous around the world.
Solagri is the guardian of the Sorrentine lemon PGI
Solagri intends to continue to revive the area of production of the "Sorrentine lemon" by all possible means. It believes that active and productive conservation that respects the old cultivation techniques will guarantee the protection of the agricultural and natural landscape. The protection of the landscape was one of the objectives which motivated the foundation of Solagri.
It is undeniable that the care of the agricultural and natural landscape plays a major role in attracting tourists to the Sorrentine Peninsula and the island of Capri. Similarly the revival of the original high quality products typical of the area makes an undeniable contribution and gives a stimulus to gastronomy and the catering industry.
